Crew
At SDC, we believe in nurturing not only academic growth but also social-emotional development, and Crew is where it all comes together. Crews embody empathy, compassion, and collaboration, creating a supportive environment where every student thrives.
So, what exactly is Crew? Picture it as your student's personal advisory team, led by a dedicated Crew Advisor who's also an SDC teacher. Together, Crews of 8-16 students embark on a journey of growth, focusing on essential academic and social-emotional skills through team building, academic support, conflict resolution, and self-reflection.
Every Wednesday, for 30 minutes, Crews come together to build connections that last a lifetime. And here's the best part – your student's Crew stays intact throughout all four years of high school, ensuring a strong sense of belonging and support.
But what happens in Crew? It's a blend of lessons, activities, and rituals carefully crafted by our Social-Emotional Learning Team. From discussing academic and social issues to organizing portfolios and engaging in skill-building activities, Crew is where your student's voice is heard, valued, and celebrated.
At SDC, Crew isn't just a program – it's a culture supported by NYC Outward Bound Schools, creating equitable spaces where every student's ideas and needs are embraced.Ready to join the Crew? Explore more about this transformative experience here.
