Visual Arts Pathway
The Visual Arts Pathway at SDC offers an immersive journey into the world of artistic expression and visual storytelling. Through a dynamic blend of theoretical study and practical application, students will delve into the essential principles of visual arts, exploring various mediums, techniques, and creative processes that define contemporary and historical art.
Throughout this six-credit sequence, students will explore different artistic styles, movements, and the works of influential artists, gaining a deep understanding of how culture, society, and individual perspectives shape artistic expression. They will investigate the relationship between form, content, and technique, learning to create visually compelling and conceptually rich works of art.
Practical exercises will include foundational skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art. Students will learn to use industry-standard software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Corel Painter, as well as traditional tools and materials. They will be trained in techniques such as composition, color theory, perspective, and digital rendering. By the end of the sequence, students will be proficient in creating and critiquing works of art, developing their own artistic voice, and using professional terminology and tools.
Students will also have opportunities to exhibit their work, participate in critiques, and engage with the local art community. All students in the Visual Arts Pathway will graduate with a portfolio that demonstrates their technical skills, creativity, and artistic vision, along with at least one industry-recognized credential in digital design or visual arts.
