Architectural Design Pathway
The Architectural Design Pathway at SDC is an exciting exploration into the fundamental principles of architectural design and construction. Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on activities, students will gain insight into the creative process of designing structures that shape our built environment.
Throughout the six credit sequence, students will study various architectural styles, historical landmarks, and influential architects, gaining an understanding of how culture, technology, and environmental factors influence design decisions. They will explore the relationship between form, function, and aesthetics, learning to appreciate the artistry and innovation inherent in architectural design.
Practical exercises include learning foundational hand drafting and design skills, reading construction documents, and an introduction to Computer Automated Design (CAD). By the end of this sequence, students will graduate being able to read, create and dimension technical sketches, read site plans and architectural drawings, analyze structures and determine the effects of structural stresses, and utilize industry terminology and technology appropriately. Students will be proficient in industry based software AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SketchUp and Revit. Students use 3D printers, CNC Routers and Laser Cutters to fabricate their own designs. All students in the Architecture pathway will graduate with at least one industry recognized credential.
